LSUHSC Hurricane Katrina Archive: Photos
This collection is in progress. Please check back as more images are added.
The Hurricane Katrina Archive: Photographs collection documents the experiences of faculty, staff, students, and residents of LSU Health Sciences Center – New Orleans beginning the days immediately following the landfall of Hurricane Katrina and continues for several years of rebuilding and recovery efforts.
Faculty were present at affiliated hospitals and health care facilities that experienced devastating loss and damage during the storm and, more significantly, during the city-wide flooding that occurred after the failure of the federal levee system. While some may find some images in this collection to be distressing, care has been taken to not include any images showing harm to people or animals, or damage to personal property. Persons included in this collection are either LSUHSC-NO affiliates, emergency first responders, or U.S. military members. The locations are primarily the two New Orleans campuses and their surrounding neighborhoods including Charity Hospital, and the many temporary academic and administrative settings in Baton Rouge, LA.
These photographs were acquired by the LSUHSC-NO Libraries as a donation from a faculty member upon retirement. Unfortunately, any information regarding photographer/s was not included with the donation. If you are responsible for any images in this collection and would like attribution, or if you would like to contribute to this archive, please contact DigitalScholar@lsuhsc.edu.
