The Art of Medicine! 2025

The Student Interest Group for Music and the Arts' (SIGMA) visual art exhibition The Art of Medicine! returns after a years-long hiatus on February 21, 2025 at 4 pm in the CALS Atrium.

The exhibition provides an opportunity to showcase the creative talent of medical school students, faculty and staff. This event is organized by LSU School of Medicine L4 Class President Jonathan Legier and SIGMA Vice President Joe Starns.

Live music provided by: Hope Bernier, Annelise Henry, Matthew Herrera, Samantha Seetharama, Ryan Smith, and Joe Starns.

About SIGMA: Student Interest Group for Music and the Arts is a group of medical students with a passion for things other than the hard sciences. Members are dancers, musicians, DJs, painters, poets and everything in between. Events are usually a good balance between an escape from school and a fundraiser for various charities. Past beneficiaries have included Camp Tiger, Make Music NOLA, Operation SMILE, and the New Orleans Musicians’ Clinic.

  • A simple still life painting of two oranges resting side by side on a light surface. The oranges are rendered in warm shades of orange with visible brushstrokes and soft highlights. • A still life painting featuring a pink lily arranged in a warm brown mug, placed beside a tall, rustic glass bottle. A purple butterfly rests on the bottle’s opening, while a single yellow-green apple sits at the base on a pale green surface. The background is softly brushed in shades of gray, and the objects are outlined with loose, expressive strokes that emphasize texture and warmth. by Milena Vukelic

  • A colorful painting of two toucans perched on a brown branch against a pale blue sky. One toucan sits upright while the other leans inward, their large curved beaks overlapping. Both birds have black bodies, white chests, bright blue eyes, and red-orange accents beneath their beaks and on their tails. Green leaves with visible veins surround the branch, and the artist’s signature appears in the upper right corner. by Milena Vukelic

  • Painting of two outstretched hands reaching toward each other against a light background: on the left, a hand with exposed muscles and tendons; on the right, a blue medical-gloved hand, their fingertips nearly touching. by Sheeza Wajid
