Description
The Louisiana Tumor Registry (LTR) is mandated by law to collect, analyze and disseminate information on cancer in Louisiana. This statewide population-based cancer registry monitors cancer incidence rates by age, race, sex, geographic region and other population characteristics over time so that data-driven, evidence-based cancer prevention and control programs can be implemented to reduce cancer morbidity and mortality. Registry data provide the foundation for studies evaluating the efficacy of clinical therapies, health care planning, screening and early detection programs, and other cancer prevention and control initiatives. This monograph documents the occurrence of and mortality from cancer in Louisiana from 1997 through 2001.
