Abstract
Background: The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) emphasizes Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) as a foundational element for professional nursing education, crucial for preparing students to care for diverse patient populations. The purpose was to develop and validate an instrument to measure the extent to which DEI elements are integrated throughout the nursing curriculum. Methods: The ENACT (Evaluating Nursing and Curriculum for Transformation) was developed through a comprehensive process involving several phases: tool development based on DEI elements, framing each element within the Nursing Process (ADPIE), preliminary evaluation, obtaining content validity index (CVI) from experts, renaming the tool to the ENACT for copyright, and both internal and external implementation. Results: The content validity index (CVI) for each element ranged from 0.78 to 0.95. The Cronbach's Alpha values for the individual subscales, representing each DEI element, also demonstrated strong reliability, ranging from 0.751 to 0.982. Conclusion: The successful validation of ENACT provides nursing programs with a valuable resource for systematically evaluating their curricula, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared to deliver equitable and inclusive care to increasingly diverse patient populations, aligning with the foundational principles established by the AACN.
