Abstract
Over a quarter of a million Americans suffer from a drug use disorder and last year alone, over 100,000 died from drug overdoses. Substance misuse and overdose are serious health problems that affect individuals and entire communities. Illicit drug use has been linked to detrimental psychosocial, educational, and mental health effects. There are several options for preventative initiatives, and successful implementation of these initiatives demonstrates the potential for lowering illegal drug usage and its consequences.
