Abstract
Substance misuse is a significant health and social issue. At present, it is known that epigenetic factors contribute significantly to susceptibility to various drug use disorders. It is important to consider these potential variables to provide the most effective and efficient treatments, especially pain treatment, in patients who present for clinical management. The present investigation reviews in detail the pharmacogenetics and metabolism of opioids, nicotine, and alcohol use, postanesthesia problems, and highlights recent studies.
