Abstract
To assess demographic and policy factors that impact out-of-home placement disruptions in young children (0-5 years old), a Generalized Linear Model was used focusing on the children’s first 30 days in foster care. Protective factors were associated with being initially placed with relatives/kin and being younger than 3 years old. Risk factors included entering foster care on the weekends/after hours, having a low SES, and being Black/Biracial Black. The results suggest the importance of relative/kinship caregivers and the need to address policies that may inadvertently and negatively impact marginalized families.
