Abstract
The esophagus can be divided into three parts that correlate with distinct sources of venous drainage. The inferior thyroid veins drain the cervical esophagus, the thoracic esophagus by the thoracic esophageal veins, and the abdominal esophagus, located inferior to the diaphragm, by the lower esophageal veins (Standring 2021).
