Abstract
All the great arteries of the head and neck are derived from the six pharyngeal arches (PAA), which are composed of endothelial cells derived from the mesoderm and develop jointly with the six pharyngeal arches. The third PAA is responsible for the formation of the carotid artery system (Frisdal and Trainor 2014).
