Abstract
The brachiocephalic trunk is one of the three main branches of the aortic arch. The development of the aorta begins around the third week of gestation (Kau et al. 2007). The aortic sac is considered the first portion of the aorta to form. It develops into two distinct horns, the right and left ones, giving rise to numerous important anatomical structures. The right horn specifically gives rise to the brachiocephalic trunk, while the aortic arches later develop from the aortic sac. The right horn of the aortic sac joins with the right third and right fourth aortic arch, eventually giving off the right common carotid artery and right subclavian artery, respectively. Merging the right horn with the two aortic arches forms the structure known as the brachiocephalic trunk.
