Abstract
The article focuses on increasing detection strategies for young children who are in the foster care system and may have experienced exposure to alcohol in utero. Topics covered include the prevalence rates of prenatal alcohol exposure cases, the strategies to improve diagnosis of fetal alcohol spectrum disorder and the resources for caregivers. A clinical vignette is discussed to illustrate ways to integrate the factors in the work with families in the foster care system.
