Abstract
Objective: To build a database of campus art to help preserve campus history and to create a record of where items are currently located (or when they were last seen). Methods: Using our campus’s instance of BePress Institutional Repository, I built an online collection of images of artwork housed on campus, mostly portraits of historical faculty members. Historical information is gathered about each individual, or the piece of art, and then added to the database. Statistics on usage are gathered and new pieces to add are being identified monthly. Results: The collection of art is being used at an astonishingly rate. Conclusions: The collection documents and archives the existence of portraits on campus as well as recognizing individuals who were significant to the campus’s history. Finding the time to properly photograph, measure and research all the individuals is a challenge. Also deciding what framed items should be included has been a source of discussion.
