Abstract

Objective: To create a template for LSUHSC-NO’s LibGuides to give them a unified look and feel and make navigation of the LibGuides easier. Methods: Using LibGuides template editor, changed the navigation from “tabbed” to “side nav” and created a style guide for other librarians to base their LibGuides on and have a centralized place to look for resources and other help on building a LibGuide. Assessed relevance of individual guides, edited the tags list to get rid of unnecessary tags. Added Alt Text to images to increase accessibility of guides. Results: Other staff members seem happy with the changes, LibGuides now look more consistent across all subjects. Conclusions: The redesign was necessary as the LibGuides had fallen out of “best practices” standards and an overwhelming amount of individual LibGuides had been created, left untouched and out of date. The process took quite a lot of time, had to assess all the individual LibGuides in the system and determine if they should be kept published or not. The redesign is an ongoing process, more changes will be made in future to best fit needs of users and staff.
