Introduction: This case report explores the multifaceted challenges of comorbidities, contractures, pain, and discomfort in a below-knee amputee, emphasizing the vital role of comprehensive care and multidisciplinary approaches.
Purpose: Addressing the complexities encountered by below-knee amputees, this report underscores the importance of comprehensive care and multidisciplinary approaches in managing these challenges effectively.
Methods: The case of a 69-year-old African American female with diabetes-related below-knee amputation is detailed, including her physical therapy and hospitalizations. A thorough examination informed the development of a comprehensive plan of care.
Results: The examination identified impairments, limitations, and participation restrictions linked to the amputation and comorbidities. Short and long-term goals aimed to improve mobility and functional independence were established.
Discussion: This case underscores the necessity of comprehensive care, proactive comorbidity management, and tailored interventions. Integration of evidence-based strategies such as pain management and resistance training is pivotal.
